Savanna and Perry Stephens, the owners of SpeedPro Desert Valley in Phoenix, have career goals that extend beyond their print shop and into the community. They are working to tear down barriers for people with autism, hoping to inspire their children along the way.
The family understands the challenges that the disability presents. That’s because Perry, as well as their two children, Aiden and Ally, all have autism.
As a business owner, Perry is setting an example that those with the disability can overcome these challenges and have successful careers in the printing industry and as entrepreneurs. “There is a place for everyone in the workplace,” he says.
As the studio emerges post-pandemic, the family’s goal is to actively hire individuals with autism as interns and full-time staff, providing them with the ability to seek meaningful employment and thrive in the workplace. To that end, Perry helped set up job training through Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC) in Arizona.
The shop also works with partners who are similarly passionate about spreading autism awareness, coordinating events and opportunities that amplify their mission. The goal is to debunk misconceptions surrounding autism and show how people with the disability can excel in the workplace.
