Zund UVjet Flatbed Family Grows by Three

Zund introduced three new flatbed printers at the recent Drupa show: the UVjet 215- Plus, UVjet 250-Combi, and UVjet XY-Flat. The first two printers are due to begin shipping in the US later this year; the XY-Flat will not be available in the States until 2005.

The UVjet 215-Plus is a flatbed and rollto- roll printer that handles media up to 86 in. wide and 1.57 in. thick. It can handle both rigid and roll media, as well as media with a smooth, uneven, or perforated surface.

The 215-Plus offers 6-color printing (CMYKcm) using UV-curable inks that offer 2 to 3-year outdoor durability. Its maximum speed is 140 to 280 sq ft/hr and its maximum resolution is 360 dpi. The 215- Plus features Spectra S128 printheads, a 5-liter ink container, fast load/unload (with input/output feeder tables), simultaneous printing of multiple smaller formats, and easy registration for double-sided printing.

It is designed for printing indoor and outdoor signage, posters, trade-show and stage graphics, flags, billboards, backlits, P-O-P, vehicle graphics, and decorations. Expected to ship in August, its projected retail price in the US is $180,000.

The UVjet 250-Combi is a high-production flatbed/roll-to-roll printer that utilizes UV-curable 4 or 6-color printing (CMYKcm) plus a white-ink option. It accommodates media up to 100.8 in. wide and up to 3.9 in. thick, including media with an uneven or perforated surface.

Print speeds reach 215 to 430 sq ft/hr and resolutions are up to 400 dpi. The printer includes two feeder (input/output) tables, easy registration for doublesided printing, 5-liter ink containers, and Spectra S128 printheads.

The 250-Combi is designed for printing indoor and outdoor signage, trade-show panels, banners, furniture, rollups, posters, flags, billboards, backlits, vehicle graphics, and decorations. It will make its US debut at the SGIA show in October and is expected to ship shortly thereafter. Projected retail price: $320,000.

The UVjet XY-Flat is a 4-color flatbed printer that also accommodates roll media up to 1.18 in. thick. It comprises three models, allowing for a variety of media widths: the L-800 prints a 31.5 x 30-in. image and accepts materials up to 81 in. wide; the XL-800 offers a printable area of 48 x 30 in. with a maximum material width of 96 in.; and the XL-1200 offers a printable area of 48 x 49 with a 96-in. maximum material width.

It features Spectra 128 printheads and UV-curable inks with 2 to 3-years outdoor durability. The XY-Flat prints at resolutions from 360 to 720 dpi and at speeds from 22 to 65 sq ft/hr. The XY-flat is designed to print applications such as indoor/outdoor signage, maps and charts, lenticulars, posters, exhibition graphics, technical screenprinting, showrooms, and P-O-P graphics. The UVjet XY-Flat price has yet to be set. (Zund: www.zund.com)
