Roland Announces VersaArt Series Sublimation Printers

Roland DGA has introduced a new sublimation solution for its VersaArt series of printers.
The 4-color (CMYK) printers are available in two models: the 64-in. RS-640 and the 54-in. RS-540. For sublimated graphics, the VersaArt printers add Roland’s BU-2 high-capacity ink system and HeatWave SBL2 sublimation inks.

Top resolution is 1440 dpi; the VersaArt can hit a maximum speed of nearly 343 sq ft/hr with the sublimation option (RS-640 speed). It can accommodate media up to 39-mil thick with liner. A take-up system for handling media rolls up to 66 lbs is optional.

Both VersaArt models feature Roland’s Intelligent Pass Control technology. Roland VersaWorks RIP software is included, and features: advanced cropping, tiling, and nesting options; embedded ICC-profile support; the Roland Color System for spot-color matching; variable-data printing and personalization capabilities; and more.

Price: $16,295 (RS-540), $17,895 (RS-640), plus approximately $2000 for the BU-2 ink system for sublimation (SBL2 inks are priced at $129.99 per liter).

The company also has formally introduced its largest vinyl cutter to date, the 64-in. Camm-1 Pro GX-640, which it previewed at this spring’s ISA expo. The new cutter features an advanced DC servo motor (mechanical resolution to 3.5 microns); 10 pinch roll slots accommodating up to six added pinch roll assemblies for heavy materials; a Heavy mode for large, heavy media; an Overlap function for multiple cuts on thick materials; and an Extend mode for increased cutting width to aid in tracking long cuts. The Camm 1 Pro GX-640 comes with the latest version of Roland’s CutStudio design software, which includes plug-ins software for Adobe Illustrator and CorelDraw. Price: $6995.
