Richard Childress Racing (RCR, www.rcrracing.com) is finally ready for NASCAR’s season opener, the Sprint Unlimited at the Daytona International Speedway. For months, the graphics team has been hard at work designing, printing, and installing wraps a fleet of cars driven by Ryan Newman, Paul Menard, and Childress’ grandsons Austin and Ty Dillon, among others.
While the drivers got a break to gear up for their February start, the graphics team didn’t have much of an offseason. They begin design work in August and stay busy for each individual event throughout the season. “When it comes to new wrap concepts, we may need to create up to 20 different variations of a single design for a sponsor to choose from,” says Nick Woodward, RCR’s graphics manager. “Regardless of whether a design is new or not, we print and install a new wrap for every one of our race cars prior to each race. During the course of an average season, we’ll complete approximately 325 full vehicle wraps, using more than 99,000 square feet of media.”
The graphics crew also wraps RCR’s pit equipment and support and transport vehicles. All of the graphics are printed on a fleet of eight Roland wide-format printers, including the Soljet Pro 4 XR-640 and XF-640, in RCR’s Welcome, North Carolina, facility.
