Illustrator Chet Phillips' image “Epilogue” was chosen from among 30 finalists as the “Best in Show” at the 7th Annual Digital Art Contest at the Macworld CreativePro Conference & Exposition.
Phillips used Corel's Painter software to create the image which was output for the Macworld CreativePro gallery on a Hewlett-Packard Designjet 5000 printer using HP's UV-resistant pigmented inks and HP printing media.
Phillips is a Dallas, TX-based artist who had worked with airbrush, color pencils and the scratch board before going digital in 1992. Now working exclusively in Painter, Phillips has been exhibiting his digital art since 1993 and has done commercial work for ad agencies, corporations, newspapers, book publishers and design firms.
His work has been included in past MacWorld competitions, but this is his first best in show award. He says the hardware and software prizes are wonderful, but, “The best reward is having my image presented in a year-long spotlight to thousands of people across the country.”
The image made its debut at the 2003 Macworld Creative Pro Conference July 16 and will be part of a traveling exhibition scheduled to appear in conjunction with new media events in San Diego and Cleveland. The work will also be featured at the Macworld CreativePro Conference & Expo in San Francisco in January 2004.
