Earlier this summer, organizers of Theater aan Zee (theateraanzee.be), a culture and music festival in Oostende, Belgium, worked with Mutoh Europe to put a digital twist on more than 50 fine-art photographs in two outdoor photo exhibitions the event hosted at the edge of the sea.
The exhibitions comprised two sets of images—the first set, by photographer Wim Vandekeybus, most captured in South America and Africa, show animals and people interacting with the camera in breathtaking landscapes. The second set of photographs, by Danny Willems, display images of the life and performances of European pop artist Arno Hintjens.
All of the images were printed directly onto Kömatex PVC foam board, using Mutoh’s 64-inch 4-color Zephyr UV printer. Twenty-nine of the images were output at 4.6 x 13 feet, while another 23 were output at 4.9 x 7.6 feet; in all, nearly 2500 square feet of fi ne-art prints was produced. To be able to handle the 55-pound Kömatex boards, the input and output tables of the Zephyr were extended.
The two photo exhibitions remained open to the public through the end of August.
