Oce Introduces CS6060 Mid-Range, Low-Solvent Printer

Oce will make its CS6060 low-solvent, large-format inkjet printer available in January 2005, the company reports. The printer has been available in Europe, the Middle East, and South Africa since July 2004 (see The Big Picture, Sept. 2004 issue, p. 25).

Geared toward short-run print jobs and light production environments, the CS6060 is a 6-color (CMYKcy) 64-in. wide printer that offers true 720 x 720 dpi resolution at print speeds up to 176 sq ft/hr in four-pass mode (88 sq ft/hr in eight-pass mode, and 330 sq ft/hr in two-pass mode).

The printer uses Oce IJC610 series low-solvent inks that offer an expanded color gamut. The system ensures color accuracy and high density, the company reports, while delivering “rich reds and deep blacks for printing onto a wide range of uncoated media.” The inks are cyclohexanon-free and contain lower concentrations of solvents. They provide up to 3 years of outdoor durability.

List price on the CS660 will be $32,995 for the printer only; ink prices to be announced.

Meanwhile, Oce has reported that its Arizona 60UV printer will not be released to the market. The 60UV, a hybrid printer intended for high-production environments, was originally announced at the 2004 Graphics of Americas show. In The Big Picture's June issue, Oce reported that the printer would begin shipping Q3 2004.

“Our beta tests uncovered issues that we cannot address in a timely or economical manner,” says Kelli Ramirez, director of communications for Oce Display Graphics Systems. “Specific issues will not be addressed for competitive / confidentiality reasons.”

The company will re-focus on its strength areas, says Ramirez, “in the mid-volume and high-volume markets. Oce Display Graphics Systems has always excelled at developing and manufacturing mid-volume production printers such as the original Oce Arizona 180, and the Arizona 600. Our Arizona T220 (solvent and UV) products have been well-received, and our Oce LightJet products are selling extremely well worldwide.”

The company's recent agreement with Gandi Innovations to sell and support the JETi 3300 grand-format printer in the US also has helped the company fill its current product mix. “With the Gandi Innovations partnership, we've added high-volume production printers to the line-up,” she says. “We believe this impressive range of products will meet the needs of the professional production-volume digital service provider for a wide variety of applications.” (Oce: www.oce.com)
