Microtek to Change North American Focus

Microtek, the manufacturer of digital imaging products such as professional-grade scanners, has announced a change in its sales strategy for digital imaging products in North America. Effective in December 2008, Microtek will move from an emphasis on selling consumer and professional scanners to an exclusive emphasis on 'developing OEM relationships and vertical market opportunities.' The company will continue to develop consumer and professional digital imaging products, including scanners, for sale in other areas of the world.

'Microtek will continue to work with business partners in North America to supply hardware and software products that are either part of a system or integrated into a larger product,' explains Parker Plaisted for Microtek. 'The products supplied by Microtek may or may not be labeled with a Microtek brand or trademark, but…if a Microtek brand or trademark is used it will not be the primary brand or trademark for the system or larger product. For example, an automobile can have many components that are provided by separate companies and may carry the brand or trademark of the supplier (e.g., Delco radio) but the customer seeks service after the purchase from the automobile company.'

Microtek International is working on a plan to continue providing support to current customers who own Microtek products, says Plaisted. The contact information and e-mail support provided through http://support.microtek.com will continue to be available to current Microtek customers; the www.microtekusa.com site will go down in December.

Founded in 1980, Microtek International is headquartered in Industry Park, Hsinchu, Taiwan. The company has operations and distribution channels in more than 50 countries around the world.
