MACtac Awards Return

MACtac has announced the return of its worldwide awards program. The competition is seeking projects from all over the world that have been produced in 2004-2005; entries must have been created using a MacTac Performance Graphics product. Entries may be submitted by sign makers, digital printers, ad agencies, studios, end users, applicators, or conveters.

An independent jury will judge entries in four categories: Vehicle Graphics (cars, buses, trucks, trains, planes), Exterior Signs (billboards, buildings, events), Interior Signs (showrooms, tradeshows, shops, museums), and Technical Achievement (3-D, large-scale projects, and other demanding applications). The jury will evaluate entries in each territory on creativity, visual impact, and technical achievement; judging will be based upon job complexity, size, project organization, and efficiency.

Prizes will be awarded in three separate geographic areas: the Americas; Europe; and Middle East/Africa/Asia/Oceania. Category winners in the Americas will win an international trip for two, including airfare and accommodations. Regional winners will be awarded a weekend trip for two to a destination within the Americas. Similar prizes will be awarded to the other geographic areas. Deadline is January 31, 2006.

The judges panel for the Americas territory of the 2006 awards will include: Blair Adams, editorial director of Signs Canada; Nancy Bottoms, editor and associate publisher of Signs of the Times & Screen Printing en Espanol; Ebbie Phillips, chairman of the board of the International Sign Association (ISA) and president/CEO of Tyson Sign Systems; Mike Robertson, president of the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA); Wade Swormstedt, publisher/editor of Signs of the Times; and Thomas Tetreault, publisher and editor of Digital Output.

Above, Salmeri of Germany (www.salmeri.de) produced this vehicle graphic that gives the illusion of car next to a van; the van is real, the car is not. Salmeri used MACtac's MACmark for the graphic, which promotes the shop's services. The image won 2nd Place in the Germany/Austria/Switzerland region of the 2004 European awards.
