Kodak NexPress Finishing Solutions

Owners of the NexPress 2100 can now add extra sparkle to the final products with three new finishing options. All of the options are targeted for applications such as direct-mail pieces, book covers, brochures, greeting cards, and postcards.

The Kodak NexPress Intelligent Coating Solution (formerly known as IntelliCoat) allows NexPress users to add a flood or spot coating of the clear DryInk imaging material for extra protection. The DryInk gives an “offset” look to the print and reduces damage to images that can be caused by finishing and bulk-mailing equipment. In addition, it can add a watermark to coupons or copyrights to image proofs. The unit retails for $5000 and includes an in-line fifth imaging unit and DryInk materials. NexPress owners must have the coating solution in order to utilize the glossing solution (below).

The Kodak NexPress Intelligent Color Solution (formerly known as IntelliColor) utilizes red, green, or blue DryInk imaging materials. It enables an increased color gamut (over standard offset process printing) and improved reproduction of spot colors. It sells for $5000 and includes a fifth in-line imaging unit and red, green, and blue DryInk materials.

The Kodak NexPress Intelligent Glossing Solution (formerly known as IntelliGloss) furthers the coating process by adding a high-gloss finish–higher than UV-coating–through the near-line NexGlosser. The glossing solution provides a laminate-like finish, enhanced image quality, and spill- and stain-resistance. The glossing solution costs $35,000 and includes high-gloss clear DryInk.

All three Intelligent solutions are only available with the NexPress Power ($430,000) and Optima ($545,000) bundled solutions.

In addition, at Drupa, NexPress also introduced NexTreme OneFlow+ software, to enable operators to control complex arrays of print jobs. (NexPress: www.nexpress.com)
