At Drupa in May, Global Graphics introduced
its JDF-enabled Harlequin RIP. The
RIP is powered by a JDF Enabler module
that allows OEMs and system integrators
to build JDF-enabled workflow solutions
such as proofing, imaging, direct-to-print,
and digital printing around the RIP. Able to
integrate into both entry-level set ups
and sophisticated systems, JDF support
extends into TrapPro in-RIP trapping, ColorPro
in-RIP color management, and the
Harlequin Screening Library. It also supports
JMF for easy integration into management
systems and includes functionality
to interoperate with management
information systems (MIS).
The JDF-enabled Harlequin RIP has
been validated with these vendor products:
Dynagram DynaStrip; Creo Preps;
Ultimate Technographics Impostrip;
Screen FlatWorker; OneVision Speedflow
Impose; DALiM MISTRAL; Agfa :Delano; ppi-
Media PrintNet; and OCSL Optimus.
Global Graphics has also developed
Cortex, an industry-standard platform for
building digital workflows. At the heart of
Cortex is SOAR SDK v 4.0, the Harlequin
RIP technology. Building on SOAR, it provides
components that work together to
perform workflow processing, such as the
Harlequin RIP with PostScript level 3 language,
PDF Conversion Server; JDF Server;
native PDF RIP with in-RIP trapping, colormanagement
imposition and screening,
native support for PDF/X-1a and PDF/X-3,
and high-performance rendering.
These modules make it easier for
developers to customize and deliver a
variety of workflows (including solutions
on Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms),
and gives the freedom to integrate thirdparty
applications to enhance the base
