A new prepress-oriented PDF guide from the GATFPress offers step-by-step instructions on how to deal with the most common problems with client-submitted PDF files. For example, the book explains how to handle missing image bleeds, convert images to duotones, and edit entire paragraphs of text.
Entitled “The PDF Print Production Guide,” the book by Joseph Marin and Julie Shaffer addresses the most common problems identified in a GATF survey of printing companies.
It also suggests specific procedures for creating print-perfect PDF files using the standard Acrobat software tools. And one chapter has been devoted to answering common PDF questions taken directly from GATF training programs and seminars. All information in this book has been tested in the GATF labs for reliability.
The 164-page, spiral-bound book sells for $45 ($40 for GATF members). (Graphic Arts Technical Foundation: www.gain.net)
