Eastman Kodak has realigned several positions in its leadership team, all of which report to Antonio Perez, Kodak's president and COO.
James Langley, former senior executive at Hewlett-Packard, has joined Kodak as President of Commercial Printing. Commercial Printing is a new business unit within Kodak and encompasses Kodak's Encad subsidiary and its NexPress and Kodak Polychrome Graphics joint ventures.
Langley spent 30 years at HP–all in the publishing arena–rising to become vice president of commercial printing. He established HP's Vancouver Printer division and managed its entry into the commercial-printing market. Langley has a B.S. in mechanical engineering from UC Berkley and a M.S. in mechanical engineering and computer science from Stanford.
In addition, Commercial Printing will include an initiative to enter the digital asset management (DAM) market and publishing services, including distribution and output of digital assets such as images. Philip Gerskovich, currently general manager of Kodak's software and digital services business, will lead this initiative.
“Digitally-driven commercial printing is a large and growing market, and is a core part of our long-term vision to drive revenue and earnings growth,” says COO Antonio Perez. “Kodak has the assets and competencies to be a leader in this market, with our portfolio of intellectual property of printing technologies, our Encad subsidiary, and our NexPress and Kodak Polychrome joint ventures. These will be the foundation of Kodak's on-demand color printing and network publishing efforts.”
Willy Shih, Kodak senior vice president, will assume the presidency of Display and Components business. This includes products built on Kodak's organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology and other display technologies, as well as its image sensor solutions (ISS) business. ISS designs, manufactures, and sells charge-coupled devices (CCDs) for digital cameras.
On an interim basis, Shih will maintain his responsibilities as President of the Digital & Applied Imaging (D&AI) products and services–the EasyShare digital photography system, inkjet paper, and online imaging services through Ofoto. Shih built D&AI into a nearly $1 billion operation in five years. With the Display and Components business, he will lead the efforts to grow Kodak's organic electroluminesence technology into a sizable new business.
Bernard Masson, currently president of the Kodak Display Group and senior vice president of Eastman Kodak Company, will become President of Digital & Film Imaging Systems. This unit includes emerging operations such as Ofoto's online imaging services and Kodak's initiatives in the mobile imaging market. It also includes established operations such as digital still cameras, inkjet paper, digital minilabs, kiosks, and thermal printers and media.
Before joining Kodak last year, Masson was President of the Consumer Printer Division of Lexmark International.
The other two primary operations in Kodak are Health Imaging and Commercial Imaging and will remain under the direction of Dan Kerpelman and Carl Marchetto respectively. (Eastman Kodak: www.kodak.com)
