J.S. McCarthy Printers Announces New President

J.S. McCarthy Printers, a family-owned print provider based in Augusta, Maine, has announced the appointment of Jonathon Tardiff as company president. Tardiff brings 25 years of experience in various positions within the company, which also holds offices in Portland, Maine; Canton, Massachusetts; Newington, Connecticut; and Stamford, Connecticut. Tardiff holds a degree in business administration from Babson College.

 

ISA Examines Emerging Markets for Wide-Format

ISA has a released a white paper analyzing emerging areas of opportunity in the wide-format printing market. “Capturing the Next Evolution of Wide Format Print Opportunities,” sponsored by EFI and prepared by Keypoint Intelligence, aims to help printers explore ways to capitalize on the latest opportunities in the industry by examining niche markets and emerging market segments. The white paper specifically narrows in on high-end , short-run and prototyping, soft signage and , digital labels, thermoforming, and home furnishings, and architectural elements.

Key takeaways and conclusions include:

• Globally, digital wide-format graphics print volume is forecasted to rise from 24.2 billion square feet to 35.5 billion in 2020 with a CAGR of 8 percent.
• Aqueous and dye sub technologies are the two ink types driving the most growth, though all ink types, except solvent, are contributing to the market expansion.
• Emerging techniques such as , , white ink, and can drive traffic and increase sales in a retail/P-O-P setting.
• Demand is increasing for prototypes, versioning, specialization, short-run packaging, and customized printing/cutting.
• While vinyl, plastic, and paper have historically served as popular signage substrates, textiles and fabrics are seeing an increase in demand, which is expected to continue in the future.

Sun Chemical to Assess Market Impact of Hurricane Harvey

Sun Chemical has announced plans to assess the impact of Hurricane Harvey on the inks and pigments markets. Several of Sun Chemical’s feedstock suppliers have announced a force majeure while other raw materials suppliers are currently reviewing allocations. The company plans to work with suppliers to “assess global ramifications, develop needed contingency plans, and notify customers of potential delays or issues,” according to a release.

 

Dscoop Forms Emergency Response Team

Dscoop has formed the Dscoop Emergency Response Team, engaging members and partners to help each other during times of crisis. In the wake and anticipation of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Jose, the team’s first concern is ensuring the safety of members in affected areas. Dscoop also aims for the team to offer assistance after members return to their businesses by connecting them with possible resources.

Inx, CannedWater4Kids Deliver Water to Hurricane Victims
September 7, 2017

Inx International has teamed up with CannedWater4Kids, a charity working to ensure access to safe, clean water worldwide, to deliver drinking water to those affected by Hurricane Harvey. A truck with 52,800 cans of purified water was sent to a Red Cross distribution center near Houston. The two organizations plan to send more water in the future as recovery continues.

 

SGP Reveals Sustainability Community Day Speakers

The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP) has announced the speaker lineup for its upcoming in Portland, Oregon, on November 14. The conference will focus on procurement, circular economy, and sustainability practices from leading companies. Speakers include:

• Jeremy Carroll, co-founder of Latitude brand and experience design firm, discussing organizational impact on customers, the supply chain, and the world
• Pam Johnson, state procurement analyst for the state of Oregon, will speak about green procurement on the state and federal levels
• Nicole Bassett, co-founder of The Renewal Workshop, presenting a case study on how the textile industry can become circular
• Kim Holmes, VP of The Plastics Industry, speaking about the “second life” of plastics and a new initiative focusing on recovering plastics from different industry sectors.
