LAS VEGAS: HOME to the Neon Boneyard, 22,000 conventions each year – we know you know – and, as of 2020, the Raiders NFL franchise. In January, the Oakland Raiders became the Las Vegas Raiders, marking the team’s third relocation in franchise history, and the team’s first warm welcome to Sin City came from Lady Liberty herself.

In true “Entertainment Capital of the World” fashion, “The Raiders wanted to promote coming to Las Vegas in a big way,” says James Swanson, principal, Screaming Images. Vegas sign and print veterans Yesco and the PSP partnered to adorn the 150-foot-tall Statue of Liberty outside New York-New York Hotel and Casino with a custom silver and black jersey.

Screaming Images took on the challenge of creating an accurate template to fit the statue at such a large scale, imaging more than 4000 square feet of Agfa Duratex Supreme Mesh with an EFI Vutek GS5000r printer and finishing with the shop’s Miller Weldmaster 112 Extreme welder, using hundreds of grommets, and more than 200 linear feet of reinforced webbing. Lady Liberty’s completed jersey measures 75.5 feet tall by 55 feet wide, and weighs a whopping 620 pounds.

After printing was completed, coordinating installation on Las Vegas Boulevard, one of the busiest streets in the world, was another challenge in itself. Yesco spent approximately 10 hours fitting the jersey using two 150-foot-tall cranes – closing four lanes of traffic in the process. Installation was complete in time for the Statue of Liberty to root the Raiders on to their first victory in Allegiant Stadium in September.

Lady Liberty stood safely on The Strip, wearing a 25-foot wide by 7-foot tall face mask, printed on 80/20 mesh via the shop’s EFI GS5000R printer.
