Cromos de Mexico SA de CV in Monterrey, Mexico is using a fleet of five VUTEk inkjet printers in combination with screen-printing equipment to produce graphics for more than 600 clients in the US and Mexico. Cromos currently prints most of the indoor and outdoor signs for more than 500 Wal-Mart stores in Mexico as well as retail graphics for many leading US chain stores, including Home Depot. Store signs range in size from small point-of-sale items to graphics as large as 8m x 30m (26 x 98 ft)
Established as a screen-printing business more than 40 years ago, Cromos specializes in providing complete signage packages”?from consultation to installation. The company employs about 120 people at three sites in Mexico and one office in Houston, TX.
They began printing some work digitally seven years ago and recently added a Vutek PressVu? UV 180/600 EC eight-color digital flatbed to their existing line-up of two 5m (196 in.) Vutek UltraVu? 5300 and two 2m (78 in.) UltraVu? 2360 printers. The four UltraVu printers are used for large banners and store-perimeter signage, and the PressVu is used for hanging and display graphics.
Cromos CEO Adrian Garcia says that “With the added flexibility of digital printing, we are able to vary the graphics to produce unique images–from one print to many hundreds.” He says the ability to make each graphic different allows for targeted, regional promotions.
