Canto Releases Cumulus Upgrades

Digital-asset management software producer Canto has released a new version of Cumulus. New versions are available for all of its packages, including myCumulus, Single User, Workgroup, and Enterprise.

Version 6.0.2 of myCumulus, Single User, and Workgroup offers enhanced stability and performance, as well as new features such as palette modes and new features in preferences dialog, settings in print, search and display.

Cumulus 6.0.2 includes a QuarkXPress (QXP) filter on Mac OS X. In addition, Single User and Client versions come with QXP AssetStore of OS X. Cumulus Single User, myCumulus, and Cumulus Workgroup 6.0.2 are available for download from Canto's website. Upgrades from existing 6.0.x installations are offered free.

Canto has also released Cumulus 6 for Enterprise, which simplifies the user's daily task of managing assets with its server-based system. Now all assets can be managed and made accessible from one window. In addition to categories, extra keyword list and asset location can now be displayed. And users can create their own categories to fit their workflow.

The new Enterprise version 6 offers Asset Handling Sets for optimized handling of different file formats. Under both Mac and Windows, Cumulus features a toolbar with the most important functions. The addition of EJaP (Embedded Java Plug-In) technology allows users to assign, detach, and merge categories, prepare catalogs, and find/replace metadata. In addition, Cumulus 6 now offers English, French, Japanese, or German interfaces, as well as palette modes and new features in preferences dialog, settings in print, search and display. The basic Enterprise package comes with server software and 20 clients.
On the business front, Canto is teaming up with RedDot Solutions, a provider of web and enterprise content-management solutions. The companies will integrate Canto's Cumulus with RedDot's Content Management Server (CMS). The combined solution will be targeted at mid-sized organizations with large amounts of multimedia files.
