Over the years, new types of inks have been introduced to address different requirements in the marketplace. Each new type of ink that hits the scene doesn't supplant any previous generations of inks. Rather, the new inks have had the effect of shifting certain types of inkjet printers into certain niches (e.g. photo reproduction, fine-art, reprographics, outdoor graphics, etc.).
