4 Environmental Graphic Projects That Created a Sense of Community

AS MANY ARE CALLED back into their places of work, companies would be smart to make the return to the physical office as enjoyable as possible. Implementing Environmental Graphic Design (EGD) is a great way to improve these spaces and make employees feel more at home. EGD embraces many design disciplines, from industrial to landscaping. Designers then aim to create experiences that connect people to places by communicating identity and information. The following EGD projects enhance spaces by utilizing unique designs to create a memorable experience for those who occupy it.

Alpha Graphics
Baltimore, Maryland

Alpha Graphics was given the Maryland State contract to design, print, fabricate, and install the new exhibit at the Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum’s (CBRM) core exhibit at the Rod ‘N’ Reel Resort in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, in the original 1898 train depot. Alpha Graphics’ goal was to tell the story of the railway and resort that launched the town. To complete the installation, they used a Roland TrueVis VG2 printer/cutter and an Epson SureColor SC-P9500 printer. The murals and timeline were printed on Photo Tex adhesive material and the silhouettes on ¾ medium density fiberboard.

Tip: Rely on the experts. Alpha Graphics depended upon the CBRM staff to make sure their installations were historically accurate.

Evermore Prints
Boise, Idaho

Evermore Prints helped brand the office space for Lovevery, a local company that is taking the world by storm by putting a new twist on old school children’s toys. The goal was to decorate the new office space with brand themes and designs that highlight the company’s fun-centric, growth mindset throughout the workspace. Evermore Prints installed a total of 28 wall murals in the office, printing with an Epson Stylus Pro 9900 onto Photo Tex adhesive material.

Tip: Take the time to understand your client. Evermore Prints wanted to nail down the branding for Lovevery, so they put in the work to understand what sets them apart from their competition.

The Kennickell Group
Savannah, Georgia

The Kennickell Group installed fish-themed wallcoverings at a children’s hospital to help spark the kids’ imaginations and be less scared. The wall wraps were designed by Frendesign, also in Savannah, and were combined with video and augmented reality. The pairing allows the children to feel like they’re actually in the water, swimming with the fish. The Kennickell Group used an HP Latex 3500 printer and an HP Latex R2000 Plus printer with white ink to print the designs onto Orafol adhesive vinyl.

Tip: When working with a construction crew, understand their schedule. The pediatric center was in the midst of being built, so The Kennickell Group had to coordinate with the construction crew to make sure their time was spent optimally as the hospital was a few hundred miles away from their office.

Vivas Inc.
San Francisco

Vivas Inc. redesigned the corporate office space for Turo, the car rental app company, to match the brand’s sleek, groundbreaking vibe. The most eye-catching installation in the office was the large vehicle mural in the office lobby, which was printed using a Roland DGA TrueVIS VG2-640 64-inch printer/cutter onto 3M Controltac 40C-10R graphic film. The elevator graphics were made using the same printer onto 3M IJ180 graphic film. Both installations were finished using 3M 8520 Scotchcal overlaminate.

Tip: It never hurts to reassure the client. Luis Vivas, owner, Vivas Inc., met with Turo prior to the installation to ensure they had the right materials and capabilities for the job.
