New from 3M is 3M Panagraphics III Wide Width Flexible Substrate for backlit applications. Since backlits need a high ink density, often prints are double-struck-but this leads to problems with image quality and drying. The new Panagraphics translucent product solves this problem by offering printable first and second surfaces-allowing for crisp imaging and eliminating drying issues. Compatible with solvent and UV-curable inks, this product is available in widths from 59 to 165 in.
3M also has announced a new Promotional Products Portfolio, a compilation of products for short- and medium-term promotional graphics. “Customers were looking for a broad portfolio of reliable promotional film products offering the kind of performance they’re accustomed to with 3M Controltac and Scotchcal Graphic films and 3M-brand flexible substrates,” said Jason Amidon, marketing supervisor, 3M Graphics Market Center. The new 13-product portfolio addresses those short-to-medium duration graphic needs. However, most of the products in this portfolio don’t carry 3M’s warranty, since they are, by design, for short-term use; most products do offer an expected lifespan of 6 mo to 5 yr.
The portfolio contains a range of substrates (from films to scrim to fabric) designed for applications such as bus kings/queens, vehicle wraps, floor graphics, banners, P-O-P, signage, and construction barriers.
The company also announced new inksets:
* 3M Piezo Inkjet Ink Series 2200UV for the EFI Vutek PV200 (6-color),
* the 6-color (CMYKcm) plus white 3M Piezo Inkjet Ink Series 2800UV for the EFI Vutek QS2000, and
* 3M Piezo Inkjet Ink Series 5400UV for the MacDermid ColorSpan 5400uv series printers.
