Winning the Graphics Race

Far Gone Greetings in Wake Forest, North Carolina, has found itself a nice little niche in marathons. Not in running the race—although company owner Victoria Primicias is indeed a runner herself—but rather in helping those who do run the races to crow about their achievements.

Race customers can choose from a variety of illustrations (which Primicias sources internationally via bid websites) in multiple sizes, from a painterly style to something more graphic. Working in Quark Xpress, Primicias customizes each print with the runner’s race details: name, race name, date, finish time and pace—all very prominent in the final graphic, unlike many race-provided posters where the runner’s information is all but obliterated by sponsor logos and the like, she points out.

“Running a marathon is a major accomplishment, and most people want to memorialize this in an artful, fun way,” says Primicias.
She produces each print on her in-house 8-color Epson Stylus Pro 3800 with UltraChrome K3 inks, in sizes up to 17 x 22 inches, all onto Epson Velvet Smooth media. All sales are carried out on the Far Gone Greetings website.

Primicias founded Far Gone Greetings in 2008 when she couldn’t find a birthday card for a fellow runner. Today, the company offers greeting cards for not only runners but also triathletes, cyclists, and dog lovers, as well as posters, prints, calendars, mouse pads, and more.
