The WebWare TransMedia EXPress service from INSCI Corp. is a service enabling QuarkXPress users to batch-convert files into Adobe InDesign files. TransMedia EXPress provides a seamless conversion to the new format while maintaining the integrity of the layout, links, and linked files. TransMedia EXPress is used in conjunction with Insci's ActiveMedia 5.0 digital asset management software (or another asset management program), which provides a central repository for managing the resultant files.

The key phrase here is “batch-convert”?this service is not for the small or casual user. Rather, it's intended for those companies that have scores of files they'd like to convert. The intention is evident in the service's pricing structure: Customers will be required to purchase a minimum 2-month account (at $5,000 per month), plus $10,000 to $15,000 for a one-time setup, which varies based on the amount of setup required. In addition, users will have to pay a $1 per megabyte file transfer fee.

The service is available as an option to current users of WebWare ActiveMedia software and outsourced service customers, and is provided on a standalone basis to creative agencies, marketing organizations, and others through certified ActiveMedia resellers. TransMedia EXPress is compatible with all versions of InDesign and QuarkXPress. (WebWare: www.webwarecorp.com)
