Typon Graphic Systems, based in Switzerland,
showed off two printers while at
Drupa: the TypoJet Explorer and the Typo-
Jet Explorer Plus.

The TypoJet Explorer is available in
two widths: 50 and 65 in. A multidensity,
drop-on-demand piezo inkjet machine, the
Explorer is an 8-color printer (CMYKcm)
that offers a printing resolution of 1440 x
1440 dpi. It can print an area of up to 430
sq ft/hr at 360 x 360 dpi, and 130 sq ft/hr
at 720 x 720 dpi.

It can use pigmented inks as well as
dye-based inks; it's possible to configure
the printer to use one set of CMYK pigmented
inks and one set of CMYK dyebased
inks, enabling a rapid changeover
between the two ink types without having
to clean the printer. In its 6-color configuration,
the printer prints CMYK plus light
cyan and light magenta; in its 8-color configuration,
it uses double CMYK.

The Explorer comes with a special edition
of Onyx PosterShop or Onyx ProductionHouse
RIP. The latter can screen two
different jobs simultaneously and can
support four active printers in a parallel
screening and printing configuration.

The TypoJet Explorer Plus, based upon
the Explorer, uses non-aggressive Eco-Solvent
Plus inks. Available in three widths”?
50, 65, and 88 in.”?the Explorer Plus provides
8 ink cartridges (220 ml each) for up
to 8 colors (CMYKcm). It offers a resolution
of up to 1440 x 1440 dpi and provides
both an integrated heating system as well
as a motorized take-up system.

Neither of the TypoJet printers will be
offered here in the States”?”We lack the
sales and service structure required in
your country,” says Typon's Kurt Weiss.
Typon also offers a range of TypoJet
Inkjet Media, specially developed and
manufactured for a variety of purposes. (Typon Graphics Systems: www.typon.com)
