Two New LCD Displays from Eizo

The 30-in. CG301W and the 22-in. CG222W are intended for professional graphics use.

Eizo Nanao Technologies has unveiled two new LCD displays in its ColorEdge line: the 30-in. CG301W and the 22-in. CG222W. Both displays are intended for professional graphics use and both are hardware calibrated (versus the graphics board, ensuring that no color tones are lost in the calibration process, the company says). In addition, both are:

* Bundled with Eizo's ColorNavigator calibration software, which allows for setting the values for brightness, white point, and gamma. ColorNavigator works with a measurement device to directly utilize the monitor’s 12-bit look-up table for hardware calibration in less than five minutes (when calibration is complete, the settings can be saved as an ICC profile); it also can be used to emulate a color space or color characteristics of another monitor.

* Equipped with Eizo’s latest ASIC (application specific integrated circuit) as well as 16-bit internal processing for smooth display of grayscale tones, which brings out details especially in dark areas of an image, and a Digital Uniformity Equalizer function that corrects the brightness and chroma uniformity errors characteristic of LCD panels.

The CG301W features a wide-gamut LCD panel that reproduces 100% NTSC and 97% of the Adobe RGB color space, making it a good option for soft proofing. The display boasts a native resolution of 2560 x 1600 (16:10 aspect ratio); 250 cd/m2 brightness, 850:11 contrast ratio, and 178? horizontal/vertical viewing angles. A picture-by-picture function divides the screen into two equal halves, essentially offering two 1200 x 1600 monitors with no center bezel (input from two different computers can be displayed, making it possible to work on two tasks simultaneously without having to toggle back and forth). Additional features include: 6-ms midtone response; a backlight sensor to stabilize brightness fluctuations; a USB 2.0 hub with one upstream and two downstream ports; and more. Price: $5299.

The ColorEdge CG222W features wide color gamut and 12-bit hardware calibration; it's able to reproduce 98% of the sRGB and 93% of the Adobe RGB color space. The CG222W features a native resolution of 1680 x 1050 (16:10 aspect ratio), a maximum brightness of 250 cd/m2, a contrast ratio of 1000:1, and 178? horizontal and vertical viewing angles. A sensor on the display's front panel reads ambient light and adjusts the screen brightness to the ideal level. The CG222W also can simulate two types of color vision deficiency – protanopia and deuteranopia – for verification of how color appears to those with color blindness. Price: $1499.
