Ultimaker has released two new 3D printers: The Ultimaker 2+ and the Ultimaker 2 Extended+. Based on predecessors Ultimaker 2 and Ultimaker 2 Extended, respectively, the newest models feature a more powerful geared feeder to reduce the likelihood of materials skipping and improved cooling for better surface quality. Also, the addition of interchangeable nozzles is designed to simplify material changes and maintenance, and to give users the option between high speed and a high level of detail.

The Ultimaker 2+ offers a build volume of 8.8 x 8.8 x 8.1 in. while the Ultimaker 2 Extended+ measures 8.8 x 8.8 x 12 in. Both machines print at a resolution up to 20 microns with a build speed (measures how fast the printer’s filament can be extruded) up to 0.001 cu in./sec and a travel speed (measures printhead movement) up to 11.8 in./sec.

The series features an open filament system, enabling users to use any kind of filament for creating various finishes.
