Gandinnovation's 11-ft.-wide Jet-i? grand-format solvent-system inkjet printer was developed by a veteran team of inkjet-printer engineers led by James Gandy, who helped pioneer the first-generation of grand-format, solvent-system inkjets. The team's goal was to take advantage of the newest technology to make the Jet-i a reliable, easy-to-use printer that is affordable enough for use in sign shops that are currently outsourcing superwide work.

The Jet-i can switch from a four-color, 300-dpi mode for fast throughput of outdoor graphics to be viewed from a distance to a higher-quality six-color mode for graphics that will be viewed more closely. Throughput speeds range from 430 sq ft/hr at the highest resolution to 1076 sq ft/hr for outdoor-graphics applications. The pigmented, solvent-based inks have an outdoor life of up to three years.

Gandy notes that the Jet-i uses long-lasting, new-generation Spectra printheads: “Not only will these new-generation Spectra printheads last, but they also aren't plagued with constant clogging and color dropout problems”?giving uninterrupted output.”

Gandinnovations is based in Toronto, Canada and has established Superwide Connection in San Antonio, TX as its worldwide marketing arm. Superwide Connection has set up a global sales, service and distribution network and will display the Jet-i at the ISA's Sign Expo April 2-5 in .

The printer is priced in the $245,000 range, which includes a Wasatch SoftRIP. A RIP from Onyx Graphics will also be available. According to Gandy, inks for the printer are available at highly competitive prices and signmaking companies can rely on local sources of service and consumables.
