Spoonflower (Durham, North Carolina) has accepted a $25 million minority investment from North Bridge Growth Equity. The company plans to expand its home goods and apparel product lines, as well as its international customer base, with the cash infusion.

” is finally coming of age,” Spoonflower co-founder Gart Davis says. “The time is right to invest in growth and to bring on a partner like North Bridge, who shares our optimism about the opportunities to transform an industry through on-demand manufacturing.”

Founded in 2008, Spoonflower employs 150 people today, printing fabric, wallpaper, and giftwrap printed with thousands of custom designs on demand. The company says its process permits improved design detail compared to screen printing through the use of water-based inks and natural or synthetic fiber textiles.

Bull City Venture Partners also participated in the deal, which represents Spoonflower’s first institutional investment.
