The newly released 10.2-Mpxl Sony Alpha DSLR-A100 builds on Konica Minolta”?s digital expertise (recently purchased by Sony), adding features such as Super SteadyShot in-camera image stabilization, a Dynamic Range Optimizer to increase detail in bright and dark picture areas, Anti-Dust technology, and an Eye-Start Autofocus system for faster camera response.

Details on some of the camera”?s features:

“? The camera”?s new Bionz image-processing engine allows users to capture up to 3 frames/sec continuously at 10.2 Mpxl at the finest JPEG compression (RAW Burst Mode allows up to 6 shots with intelligent buffer management, enabling more shots to be captured without waiting for the buffer to clear). In addition, the A100 can optimize dynamic range through in-camera hardware processing; Sony”?s Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) analyzes the captured image data and determines the best exposure and color tonality prior to JPEG compression.

“? Super SteadyShot combats blurry pictures due to high light sensitivity (up to ISO 1600) by shifting the image sensor to compensate for camera movement. Because the new Super SteadyShot feature is built into the camera body, all compatible telephoto, wide-angle, standard, and macro lenses are automatically image stabilized.

“? In addition, the camera offers a two-pronged appoach to fighting dust on the image sensor: The CCD image sensor has an indium tin oxide coating to avoid static build-up so that dust does not adhere, and the camera”?s anti-dust feature shakes off dust particles when the camera is turned off or on.

The A100 is complete with a 2.5-in. Clear Photo LCD Plus Screen that can be read in bright sunlight and an Eye-Start Autofocus system that begin autofocus adjustments as soon as the eye is brought to the viewfinder.

The new DSLR is compatible with 19 Sony lenses and with most of the former Konica-Minolta Maxxum mount lenses. It uses CompactFlash Type I/II and Microdrive for storage; it also accepts Memory Stick Pro and Memory Stick Pro Duo media cards.

Price: DSLR-A100: $899.95, camera body only; DSLR-A100K kit body plus 18-70mm zoom lens: approximately $1000.
