Sign Industry Sees Growth in Wages, Job Openings




A new survey from the International Sign Association shows the average salaries, increases and benefits for employees at nearly 60 salaried and hourly positions throughout a typical sign and visual communication operation. The report provides invaluable data sign and visual communications companies can use to benchmark with other companies of like size, scope and geographic areas.

The report, conducted by Association Research, Inc. (ARI), used confidential data from 475 sign and visual communications companies.

Some highlights:
• The average percent pay increase in 2015 was 5.4% for hourly employees, 5.1% for salaried administrative/ operational employees, and 5.5% for salaried-management employees.
• For 2016, the expected average percent pay increase is 4.8% for hourly, 4.6% for salaried administrative/operational, and 5.0% for salaried-management.
• A little over one-half (55.8%) of all respondents plan to hire additional staff in the second half (July through December) of 2015.
• In general, the largest companies (those with $3.0 million or more in 2014 annual sales volume) gave a slightly lower pay increase to their employees in 2015 than the smallest companies.
• More sales teams work on salary plus commission (42.7%) than on salary alone (30.1%). Companies that pay commission pay an average of 8.8% per dollar of new sales and 7.7% per dollar of existing sales.
