SGIA Introduces Digital Imaging Lab

New facility will host imaging workshops and more.

The Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) has introduced the SGIA Digital Imaging Lab, a brand-new facility designed to provide graphic-imaging professionals tools for maximizing their digital imaging equipment.

Housed in the SGIA's Fairfax, VA headquarters, the lab will be home to hands-on imaging workshops, the association reports. The first two such workshops will include:

“? “Color Management for Specialty Printing,” May 3″?5: Jeff Burton (SGIA), Rick Mandel (Mandel Screentech) and Larry Stenstad (Sefar Printing Solutions) will focus on hands-on color-management solutions for screen printing and digital imaging, including color-management systems, color-behavior measurement, color matching, and color lingo.

“? “Intro to Digital” June 29″?30: Will cover the latest technologies and techniques used in digital printing and imaging, including output technologies, inks and printhead systems, plus choices in media and finishing.

The lab is equipped with software and printing tools donated by companies including Gretag Macbeth, Kodak Graphic Communications Group, Matan, Mimaki, and US Screen Print & Inkjet Technology.

“The SGIA Digital Imaging Lab was built to help [shops] find new and better ways to maximize digital-imaging technology in their operation,” says Michael Robertson, SGIA president and CEO.
