Roland has extended its SolJet printer-cutter line with the new SolJet Pro III XC-540. Accommodating a maximum printing width of 53 in. and a maximum thickness of 1 mm or 40 mil, the new machine features printing resolutions up to 1440 x 1440 dpi and speeds up to 441 sq ft/hr in 360 x 360 print mode. Typical applications for the machine include banners, signs, vehicle and fleet graphics, labels, decals, and P-O-P displays.

The Pro III utilizes the 6-color (CMYKcm) Roland Eco-Sol Max inks in 220- or 440-ml cartridges. These inks are virtually odorless and do not require any special ventilation or environmental equipment, reports Roland. In addition, the Eco-Sol Max inks are water- and UV-resistant up to 3-yr outdoors without lamination; they feature faster a drying time, wider color gamut, higher density, improved scratch resistance, and broad uncoated media support.

The printer-cutter features Roland”?s Precision Firing Pattern, designed to achieve high printing speeds while maintaining vibrant high density colors. Its in-line head configuration eliminates the need for lengthy calibration procedures and costly down time.

In addition, the updated VersaWorks 2.0 RIP includes a spot-color library, functions for spot-color replacement, clipping and auto-nesting, and warnings when ink levels run low. Users can automatically update VersaWorks via the Internet for the latest software version and ICC profiles.

The Pro III features a tri-heater system for accelerated drying times and a built-in media feed and take-up system for rolls up to 66 lb for unattended production printing. Options include a dryer/blower system ($2995).

On the cutting end, the XC-540 can cut up to 11.8 in./sec with a blade force from 30 to 300 gf, and utilizes a Camm-1 series cutter blade. The integrated system allows the printing and then automatic contour cutting of graphics; or, users can remove prints, laminate, and then reload the graphics for precision cutting, using Roland”?s Quadrilign registration system, which realigns the cutting path and compensates for skew and distortion. Price on the SolJet Pro III XC-540: $29,995.

Eco-Sol Media, developed especially for use with the Eco-Sol Max ink, includes glossy, matte, clear, and translucent calendered vinyl, premium cast vinyl, premium reflective vinyl, view-through vinyl, flame retardant scrim banner, blockout scrim banner, and solvent glossy paper. Roland also offers materials specifically designed for the SolJet and VersaCamm lines, including heat-transfer material, backlit film, matte artist canvas, and a high-quality matte paper.
