Roland has introduced a complete sublimation system–HeatWave. Showcased at the recent ISA show in Orlando, the system consists of a Roland VersaCAMM SP-300 30-in. 4-color printer/cutter (with Roland COLORIP and print profiles), HeatWave Transfer Paper, and HeatWave Sublimation Inks.

The inkjet VersaCAMM SP will print up to 1440 dpi at speeds of up to 63 sq ft/hr (at 360 x 720 dpi). Roland claims its sublimation inks offer clog-free printing and an expanded color gamut. The inks were developed by Sawgrass Technologies for Roland VersaCamm printer.

The workflow is straightforward: Print an image on the sublimation transfer paper, using the HeatWave sublimation inks. Place the printed image on top of any sublimation-ready surface (from surfboard to tiles). Place both into a heat press, and at 400 degrees the graphic turns into a gas and permanently colors the surface.

The complete system sells for $13,995. (Roland DGA: www.rolanddga.com)
