Roland has introduced a complete sublimation
system”?HeatWave. The system
consists of a Roland VersaCAMM
SP-300 30-in. 4-color printer/cutter
(with Roland COLORIP and print profiles),
HeatWave Transfer Paper, and
HeatWave Sublimation Inks. The RIP
allows users to nest images to reduce
media waste and sheet-cut the images
for easy application.

The inkjet VersaCamm SP will print
up to 1440 dpi at speeds of up to 63 sq
ft/hr (at 360 x 720 dpi). Roland claims
its sublimation inks offer clog-free printing
and an expanded color gamut. The
inks were developed by Sawgrass Technologies
for the Roland VersaCamm
printer.

The workflow is straightforward: Print
an image on the sublimation transfer
paper, using the HeatWave sublimation
inks; place the printed image on top of
any sublimation-ready surface (from
surfboard to tiles); place both into a heat
press, and at 400″? the graphic turns into a
gas and permanently colors the surface.

The complete system sells for
$13,995; HeatWave 220-ml ink cartridges
are $149.95 and a 30-in. x 150-
ft roll of HeatWave transfer paper sells
for $89.95. (Roland DGA: www.rolanddga.com)
