Roland Adds SolJet Pro XJ III to Printer Line

And AdvancedJet AJ-740.

Roland has announced the new SolJet Pro XJ III line of printers as well as the latest in its AdvancedJet line, the 74-in. AdvancedJet AJ-740.

The SolJet Pro III XJ line consists of the 54-in. XJ-540, the 64-in. XJ-640, and the 74-in. XJ-740 machines. Speeds for the rollfed XJ printers (540/640/740) range from a top throughput of 441/450/458 sq ft/hr in 360 x360-dpi Billboard mode to 31/33/34 sq ft/hr in Artistic 1440 x 1440-dpi mode.

'With the XJ, shops can capture the fine details critical to indoor graphics while producing the dense, rich colors required for vivid, high-impact outdoor graphics,' says Rick Scrimger, vice president and general manager of Roland's Color Products Division.

Armed with six printheads sporting 360 nozzles per color, the new SolJet printers utilize Roland's Eco-Sol Max mild-solvent ink and offer 6-color (CMYKcm) or 4-color (CCMMYK) inksets. The choice of inksets is selectable at time of purchase, and swappable. These inks offer a wide gamut, high density, and scratch-resistance. Available in 220- or 440-cc cartridges, the inks support a range of coated and uncoated media from vinyl and banner to backlit film, canvas, and mesh.

New to the XJ machines are media flanges, pinch rollers, grit roller, and belt drive for accurate media feeding and tracking. The printers also come standard with Roland's VersaWorks RIP, an integrated tri-heater system, automated maintenance, a heavy-duty media feed, and automated take-up. Optional is a dryer/blower unit to accelerate the drying process.

Price: XJ 540, $24,995; XJ-640, $27,995; XJ-740, $29,995.

The new 74-in. version of the AdvancedJet-the AdvancedJet AJ-740-can image onto coated as well as uncoated media; it features a top print speed of 872 sq ft/hr.

'Across the digital-printing industry, there's a rising demand for more productive and flexible printers capable of handling high-volume and rush jobs, as well as small-lot production,' says Scrimger. 'The AdvancedJet AJ-740 positions shops of all sizes to succeed and profit in this competitive marketplace.'

The AJ-740 uses Roland's EcoXtreme CMYKcm solvent inks and is equipped with 6 ultra-wide printheads with 512 nozzles/color to produce high-res graphics up to 720 x 720 dpi. Speeds range from 872 sq ft/hr at 180 x 360-dpi Billboard mode to 118 sq ft/hr in High Quality 720 x 720-dpi mode.

Designed for around-the-clock production, the 740 offers automated maintenance, a high-capacity ink-delivery system, and a heavy-duty take-up system that supports rolls up to 220 lb. The VersaWorks RIP comes standard on the machine, as well as a heating/drying system (pre-heater, print-heater, and dryer); optional is the MU-740 Mesh Printing Unit.

Price of the AdvancedJet AJ-740: $54,995.

In addition, the company has introduced new SBL2 sublimation inks as well as the new HeatWave BU-1 bulk ink system-both supporting its Hi-Fi Express FP-740 sublimation printer. Packaged in 1-l bottles, the 4-color (CMYK) SBL-2 inks produce a fine-dot pattern for maximum ink transfer to the final fabric, offer high-density colors, and dry quickly, reports Roland. SBL2 inks image well on lightweight, flexible fabrics for flags, banners, and textile graphics. Mounted onto the printer, the HeatWave BU-1 bulk system allows unattended, high-volume printing for increased productivity.
