Ride of Honor

A bicycle wrap pays tribute to fallen officers.

WHEN KEN MAHLSCHNEE, owner of Bullit Auto, needed to find inspiration for a tribute bicycle wrap, he headed to The Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP), a non-profit that honors law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in the US. When he realized how many officers from all sorts of different fields die while serving, he was overwhelmed.

Mahlschnee decided to include the names of all fallen officers and K9s through 2019 on the bike that would be ridden more than 250 miles, from Raleigh to Washington D.C., on the Ride to Hope at the beginning of Police Week in May 2019. Thirty-three names were included from across the country. “The owner [Lieutenant Brian Harrison who wasn’t aware of the design] was brought to tears when shown the final product,” says Mahlschnee. “The bike made its way up to D.C. and was the center of attention the entire ride.”

Bullit Auto used Avery SW900S Supreme Wrapping Vinyl Film Gloss Dark Yellow for the base and Gloss Black for the logos and lettering. The black designs were plotted, weeded, taped, and hand laid.
