High-resolution digital cameras once represented a significant investment, but the technology is becoming more affordable. Canon's new 6.3-Mpxl EOS Digital Rebel camera lists for under $1000.

The newest in Canon's line of auto-focus SLR cameras, the EOS Digital Rebel features a 6.3-Mpxl CMOS sensor with a 22.7 x 15.1-mm image format and a 3:2 aspect ratio. The camera's shutter speeds range from 1/4000 to 30 seconds, and a built-in motor drive allows the camera to capture 2.5 frames per second in continuous shooting mode. The camera offers 12 different shooting modes, has a capacity of up to 1200 images, and features a 1.8-in. color LCD monitor and a built-in retractable flash.

The EOS Digital Rebel features Canon's DIGIC”?? (Digital Imaging Integrated Circuit) processor, which combines image processing and control of camera functions together on one chip. The DIGIC processor allows for automatic exposure, focus, and white-balance control. Additionally, the processor allows for faster display and write times for each image while consuming little power.

The EOS Digital Rebel is compatible with more than 50 Canon EF lenses. It connects to computers using Windows XP or Mac OSX (10.1 and 10.2) via a USB cable. Two versions are available: the camera with an EF 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom lens for $999, and without the lens for $899. (Canon USA : www.usa.canon.com)
