Quark Debuts Print Collection

Based on technology developed by A Lowly Apprentice Production (ALAP).

Quark unveiled at Graph Expo its Quark Print Collection, which is based on technology originally developed by A Lowly Apprentice Production (ALAP)-a company acquired by Quark late in 2005. The Quark Print Collection includes Quark Imposer for QuarkXPress, Quark Imposer for Adobe Acrobat, Quark MarkIt, and Quark Item Marks. The collection enables the creation of fully imposed, press-ready files with minimum training and effort; original files are never affected. The Print Collection includes QuarkXPress 7 XTensions software for creating custom printers marks such as registration targets, color bars, text slugs, and logos, which can be applied to individual items or entire pages. Price: $299.

In addition, Quark has upgraded its Quark DDS product to version 4.0, and officially changed its name to QuarkXPress Server 7 to better reflect the rest of the Quark portfolio. QuarkXPress Server 7 employs a Web-based, template-driven process and allows users to preview communications online, customize design and content, and print locally and remotely.

Server 7 includes QuarkXPress Server Manager, a tool that centralizes system administration, manages processing load on multiple servers, and provides reporting on automated published tasks. Server Manager supports high-level programming interfaces such as HTTP, SOAP, PHP, .NET/ASP, and Java/JSP.

Price: $40,000. QuarkXPress Server 7 is typically offered as part of a packaged solution from a Quark System integrator or OEM partner.
