PhotoScript Digital Factory from CADlink

Addresses file management, color management, and production efficiency.

PhotoScript Digital Factory was officially launched at the 2005 USSC SignWorld USA trade show in Atlantic City this past December. Created by CADlink, perhaps primarily known for its SignLab signmaking software, PhotoScript Digital Factory adds to the company's original PhotoScript RIP technology and addresses three separate production areas: file management, color management, and production efficiency. The product “positions the company in the digital printing market,” says CADlink.

The product's features include:
“? The ability to import and export more than 65 file formats;
“? A Layout Manager that allows for cropping, scaling, color changing, and more;
“? Advanced Cutting Tools;
“? A Color Calibration Wizard for profiling new media;
“? Factory-produced ICC profiles for a wide variety of ink/media combinations, as well as a built-in ICC generator for custom profiles;
“? The ability to RIP to three devices simultaneously;
“? Automated print-and-cut support, and more.

In addition, users can add specialty production modules to the core product to provide new output options. These modules include: Color-Matching module, to color-match with Pantone color libraries and apply Pantone colors to customer files; Thermal Spot Color module, providing professional tools to trap and prime complex images, and for use with machines such as the Gerber Edge, Summa DC3, and screen printing; Screen Printing module, separations technology plus the Spot Color tools; Inkjet Spot Color module; and the Contour Cut Pro module, which adds to the software's hybrid print-and-cut capability.

“Digital Factory is actually configured more like our SignLab product in the sense that the RIP is complimented by a variety of modules that can be added and that address specific production requirements in markets that are using digital printing as output options,” says Michael Chramtchenko, CADlink's director of marketing. “What we are doing is actually leveraging the technology we have developed in SignLab and adding it to Digital Factory in order to make it more than a RIP–in essence, a complete production solution from design to output, while addressing the specialty production needs that may be unique to certain processes.”

CADlink bought the original PhotoScript technology from the UK-based PS group in 1999, and has been selling PhotoScript in a variety of configurations since then (as well as OEM'ing the technology to various partners).

Price begins at: $995; modules are optional.
