Pentax has introduced two new digital cameras”?the K100D and K110D.

Both are 6.1-Mpxl digital SLRs that feature 11-pt autofocus, an APS-C size CCD, sensitivity equivalent to ISO 200 to 3200, and a top shutter speed of 1/4000 sec. Offering a 2.5-in. LCD monitor with a viewing angle of 140″? vertically and horizontally, the cameras have a continuous capture rate up to 2.8 frames/sec with up to 5 images at “best”? quality in JPEG format.

Compatible with the legacy Pentax K-mount lenses, both cameras are lightweight (22.4 oz) and compact (5.1 x 3.6 x 2.8 in.) with stainless-steel bodies and a fiber-reinforced plastic housing for overall durability. Bundled software includes Pentax Photo Laboratory 3 for RAW data processing, and Pentax Photo Browser 3 for fast data processing and conversion of RAW to DNG; PictoBridge compatibility is also included. Images are saved on SD memory cards.

One of the primary differences between the two camera models: The K100D features Pentax”?s Shake Reduction (SR) system, while the K110D does not. The Shake Reduction system is designed to reduce camera even under difficult shooting conditions, such as using a telephoto lens, and shooting in low-light conditions without a supplemental flash, reports Pentax. The system works by oscillating the CCD sensor vertically and horizontally at high speeds and adjusting the oscillation in proportion to the amount of camera shake detected by built-in sensors. The system does not require special lenses and may be used with most existing Pentax lenses.

Price: Pentax K100D with smc 18-55mm lens, $699.95; Pentax K110D with smc 18-55mm lens, $599.95. Both cameras are expected to ship in August.
