In “Keep On Truckin',” Associate Editor Kelsey Johnson gets the scoop on three food truck wraps created by Roseville, California's Palmer Signs. All featured graphics were imaged with the shop’s HP Latex 570 printer onto 3M Controltac Graphic Film with Comply Adhesive IJ180C, finished with 3M Scotchcal Gloss Overlaminate 8518.

Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento is home to the 100-stall Haggin Oaks Driving Range featuring five practice greens and two bunkers. The driving range is illuminated so that it can stay open 24/7 during summer hours; all that was missing in early 2018 was somewhere for golfers who worked up an appetite to grab some grub. Enter The Hangout food truck, offering a menu of gourmet hot dogs, sandwiches, and hamburgers; street tacos and quesadillas; apps like fries and nachos; drinks; and more.

hangout

The Hangout turned to Palmer Signs for advice creating a nice “foodie atmosphere” with the stationary truck. “They wanted a food truck atmosphere to bring in a local lunch crowd and to create a nice outdoor hangout spot on the course property to appeal to all adult age groups,” says Tony Palmer, Palmer Signs CEO and owner. “So the design had to be perfect to fit into the scene they were creating – it had to break the status quo, but not shatter it.”

The shop presented multiple drafts over the course of several meetings until the tone of color and use of texture was just right. “At a certain point, the team tasked with getting the food truck up and going just told us to ‘do what we do,’” says Palmer. So Palmer Signs did what they do best and glammed up the design with a “marquee look,” slightly skewing the lettering in a way that’s classy and clean with a bit of a tweak to tell the truck’s story.
