Onyx Releases Version 7.0 of Workflow Software

Version 7.0 of Onyx Graphics”? workflow software packages”?including ProductionHouse, PosterShop, and RIPCenter”?has been released.

The new ProductionHouse 7 software, geared toward true high-production environments and showcased at the ISA show in Orlando this spring, includes these new and key features:

“? Variable-data tool: Optimized for wide-format printing, this tool allows users to add variable text, images, and bar codes to mass-customize batch print jobs. Unlike other variable-data tools, the Onyx workflow tool processes the background image only once, so a batch run of 10 or 1000 different prints will begin printing almost immediately, the company reports.

“? Improved tiling and nesting functions: Tiles can be processed individually. Printing begins as soon as the first tile is processed, saving RIP time when only one tile of an oversized print requires reprocessing. A new Nesting function automatically rotates jobs for better media savings.

“? Layout front-end for superior flatbed workflow: Specifically designed for flatbed printers, this new application provides custom placement of print jobs. Users visualize the flatbed table on-screen and place jobs, cut marks, crop marks, and bar codes right where they are needed.

“? Media manager: A new profile-grading system helps users select the right profile for their print application. It compares all installed media profiles and returns a report on how well each media will work for different print applications. It”?s compatible with color output, printer drivers, and media profiles developed for 6.5.

“? Improved Onyx AutoUpdate and easier installation: Onyx AutoUpdate, a free application with Onyx workflow software version 6.0 or greater, is now more compatible with firewalls to ensure smoother downloads as well as featuring a new user interface. The installation process also has been redesigned to offer a more intuitive interface and faster setup.

The new versions of PosterShop and RIPCenter feature faster RIP speeds, the new Media Manager, and improvements in software-updating, documentation, and installation. PosterShop and RIPCenter do not include the new variable data tool or the layout front-end for flatbed workflow tool.
