Workflow + Software

If the “click-this/click-that, except-when-you-want-to-do-this” type of instructions found in most software technical manuals leave you more confused than when you started, check out the new Workflow Tutorial CD now supplied with Onyx PosterShop 6.0 and RIPCenter software.

Produced by the Graphic Intelligence Agency (GIA) training firm, the CD visually shows you how to use some of the newest features in Onyx software. A calm, plain English voice-over narration is combined with an onscreen pointer that moves around various screen grabs to indicate the appropriate choices for difference types of workflows.

For example, with the tutorials, screen-printing companies can see exactly how to set-up and print Illustrator and Photoshop files to create good separations on an inkjet printer. Companies using narrower-format inkjets to generate proofs on a superwide or production-speed inkjet can see how to use the Onyx Media Analyzer to see if the color gamut of their proofing printer is big enough to emulate the color gamut of their final output devices.

The CD's contour-cutting workflow tutorial describes steps for setting up Illustrator files for use with either 1) print and cut inkjets: 2) an i-cut software for digital-die cutting; or 3) a standalone contour-cutting plotter. And the photo-reproduction tutorial shows how to use popular monitor calibration tools to accurately preview what the inkjet printer will reproduce.

Current PosterShop users are encouraged to visit Onyx at Graph Expo in Chicago or SGIA/DPI in Atlanta to pick up a free CD. The CD is also available on request from Onyx Graphics. (Onyx Graphics: www.onyxgfx.com)
