Onyx Graphics, a pioneer in developing print-management/RIP software for wide-format inkjets, has built three new product offerings around its Onyx ProofCenter software: Onyx Proof Pro, Onyx Proof Standard, and Onyx Proof Lite. Designed to generate color-accurate press proofs from affordable inkjet printers, the new Onyx Proof packages offer different combinations of training, technical support and/or color profiling software.

The Onyx ProofCenter software at the core of each of the three packages uses ICC profiling tools to accurately simulate colors output from a printing press. To save time in replicating commonly used spot colors, Onyx ProofCenter includes a spot-color lookup table. The software easily integrates a Hot Folder workflow into existing prepress RIP systems and allows users to run two inkjet printers simultaneously from one system. Onyx ProofCenter can also RIP and print on the fly, meaning that proofs begin appearing almost immediately.

All three versions include two days of training by the color profiling consultants of the Graphic Intelligence Agency (GIA) digital-workflow training firm, the GIA ProofCenter book, and 90 days of technical support. With Onyx Proof Lite ($4395), customers must travel to GIA training facilities in San Diego, CA or Akron, OH for their training. With the Pro and Standard versions, GIA personnel will come to your site to install the software conduct two days of training. Onyx Proof Standard lists for $8995. The top-of-the-line Onyx Proof Pro version ($13,500) also includes a Gretag Macbeth Eye-One Color Management device and Gretag Macbeth ProfileMaker 4 software for color profiling the user's press, monitors, and inkjet media.
