Océ has announced the new Océ Arizona 318 GL printer, a UV flatbed designed “to offer smaller print producers entrance to the world of high-quality UV flatbed printing,” the company reports. The Arizona 318 GL printer made its world debut at FESPA Digital 2012 exhibition in Barcelona and its US debut at the ISA Expo in Orlando.

Based on the company’s Océ Arizona 360 GT printer platform, the Arizona 318 GL prints on rigid media up to 49.2-in. wide x 98.4-in. long and up to 1.89-in. thick. It offers print speeds up to 194 sq ft/hr in Express mode (163 sq ft/hr with its Roll Media option), producing more than 20 2 x 3-foot boards/hr, Océ reports; in Production mode, speeds are 131 sq ft/hr, and 68 sq ft/hr in Fine Art mode. The 318 GL is 4-color standard (Océ UV-curable inks in quick-exchange, 800-ml bags), with a factory-installed White Ink option. The printer features the company’s VariaDot imaging technology that can simultaneously jet droplets ranging from 6 to 42 picoliters in size.

Other features of the Arizona 360 GT include:
• True flatbed architecture allowing for edge-to-edge printing, the simultaneous printing of multiple boards, registered double-sided prints, and the printing of large displays tiled over several boards; it also allows for printing on irregularly-shaped or non-square items, heavy substrates, unusually smooth media, or materials that have an uneven surface;
• A new style tabletop that allows very thin media to be printed directly on the table without mechanical distortion of the media into the vacuum holes; and
• Optional Onyx PosterShop X10 Océ Edition software, including advanced and custom nesting tools as well as a white-ink tool, or Onyx ProductionHouse.

Price: Less than $100,000, including starter kit of inks and media.
