Nikon has announced its AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 prime lens designed to replicate the visual perspective of the human eye when used with an FX-format DSLR. Ideal for environmental, travel, event, and general photography in a wide variety of conditions, the compact lens features an ultra-fast f/1.4 maximum aperture and is intended to provide sharp, high-resolution images, and the ability to focus as close as 1.5 ft. The lens also utilizes Nikon’s ultra-compact Silent Wave Motor to ensure fast and quiet operation.

Additionally, a newly developed optical formula corrects sagittal coma flare and coma aberrations. Nikon’s Super Integrated Coatings also help reduce lens flare and chromatic aberration as well as ensure accurate color balance. The company reports that the lens’ rounded diaphragm opening combined with the nine-blade aperture contributes to a more natural appearance of out-of-focus background elements. Price: $439.95.
