NGP to Merge with CIP4

Networked Graphic Production-or NGP, the industry-wide initiative for automating the print production process using open standards such as JDF-will cease to exist and be folded into CIP4, the International Cooperation for the Integration of the Processes in Prepress, Press and Postpress. All the functions of NGP will be assumed by a new Business Networking Group within CIP4, effective with Drupa 2008. The NGP website will remain functional until Drupa, at which point all NGP information will be found on CIP4’s website.

“The convergence of NGP into CIP4 will allow for involvement from a broader base,” says Margaret Motamed, CEO of CIP4. “During the transition, all CIP4 members will have the opportunity to get involved in Business Networking Group activities. For instance, we will be working on a major update to the Integration Matrix and development of new programs that will all be revealed at Drupa.”

CIP4 also has joined with the Printing Graphics of America/Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (PIA/GATF) to form a JDF User Group aimed at implementing JDF-enabled systems and across vendors. Designed for various users, the JDF User Group focuses on JDF-enabled systems from creation to fulfillment and includes sheetfed, web, and digital-production facilities. The steering committee comprises printers who either have previously implemented systems or are currently in the process of implementation. The JDF User Group will meet throughout the country three times per year.
