Mimaki’s series of new CJV30 printer cutters made their North American debut (they were initially introduced at Drupa earlier this year). Available in four models, they include the CJV30-60 (24.4 in.), CJV30-100 (40.5 in.), CJV30-130 (53.9 in.), and CJV30-160 (63.7 in).

All models are integrated print-and-cut devices designed to deliver seamless workflows. Each features fast-drying solvent-based inks that allow for immediate cutting by the onboard contour cutting system after printing, and they also can print white ink (as well as the White Ink Overlay Print function already employed in the company’s JV33 series). Other features include: automatic media clamping (clamp pressure for each pinch roller can be set in from the RIP in four stages-strong, medium, weak, and off-according to the type of media and switched automatically); photo-sensor registration detection for precise cutting (even when lamination is required); 1400 dpi maximum resolution; and print speeds up to 59 sq ft/hr.

The new CJV30 series also includes the company’s Uninterrupted Ink Supply System (when one ink cartridge runs out, the other takes over), and Mimaki’s Raster LinkPro4 SG RIP software and FineCut plug-in cutting software for CorelDraw and Adobe Illustrator, as well as SimpleStudio.

Mimaki also introduced its SP-303 printer, which is designed for printing three-dimensional objects, such as balls, helmets, flying discs, and more. It prints objects up to 14.95 in. in diameter and up to 11.8-in. tall. The SP-303 also features LED UV curing technology, uses flexible UV inks available in up to six colors (CMYK + white + clear), and supports a top resolution of 600 dpi. Print speed: approximately 16 minutes (300 mm in diameter hemisphere, 600 dpi, 4 pass, reports the company).

And, the company presented at SGIA its new UJV-160 UV printer, which we covered in our November issue. Designed for vinyl and PVC printing, the hybrid machine features LED UV curing and prints on both roll-fed and rigid materials. The low-temperature of the curing system makes it possible to print thin, heat-sensitive materials without causing them to shrink or deform. Media up to 63.6-in. wide and 0.4-in. thick can be printed on the machine. The UJV-160 UV uses CMYK inks specially formulated for flexibility that will reportedly support expansion of up to 200% without cracking. It provides output resolutions of 600 and 1200 dpi.
