A little more than five years ago, Marco Foster went to the doctor for a headache and discovered he had a brain tumor. Today, he is both a lucky survivor and a supporter of the Brain Injury Association of Illinois (BIA), a nonprofit supporting individuals, as well as their families and healthcare professionals, who are affected by brain injuries.

For Foster’s fifth annual fundraiser for the BIA last December, he chose a Grinch theme and turned to digital signage provider Mevato to add an interactive social media element.

“Everyone likes seeing themselves featured on the big screen,” says Autumn Pippenburg, chief marketing officer at Mevato, in a blog post, “especially if they’re dressed to impress.” All guests had to do was add the hashtag #MFGrinch to their social media posts in order to appear on two 100-inch projector screens hanging throughout the venue and experience a moment of fame – increasing the fundraiser’s online presence at the same time.

Pippenburg says they used a device called the “brain box” to single out Instagram posts using the hashtag and route them to digital signage. Attendees uploaded 250 posts in just three hours, and Foster raised $18,000 for the BIA.

Multimedia is a great way for PSPs to diversify. Check out these expert tips on social media and digital signage – no “brain box” required.
