Mild-Solvent Blizzards from Mutoh

Mutoh has announced its new Blizzard series of printers. The 65-in. Blizzard 65 and the 88-in. Blizzard 90 join the company's Spitfire Extreme line of mild-solvent printers.

Targeted at small businesses requiring versatility and capacity, these machines print directly onto uncoated vinyl, banner, and soft signage. Applications include corporate signs, stage and window graphics, backlit signage, construction announcements, vehicle graphics, indoor graphics, photo reproduction, and floor graphics.

Armed with eight printheads designed in a staggered layout and Mutoh's Dynamic Variable Dot Imaging Technology, the 2 x CMYK Blizzard offers 2 x 180 nozzles/color and produces resolutions from 360 x 360 to 720 x 720 dpi.

The Blizzard printers use Spitfire Mild Solvent inks or Mutoh's Eco-Ultra inks, both of which are available in 220- or 440-ml cartridges and offer a 3-yr outdoor durability. The Mild-Solvent inks require ventilation and resist cleaners, detergents, and commercially available degreasers. Designed for use in office environments without the need for forced ventilation, the Eco-Ultra inks provide scratch-resistance and quick-drying graphics, and will adhere to a wide variety of substrates.

These machines also incorporate Mutoh's Intelligent Interweaving print technology (i2), which lays down ink in wave forms instead of straight lines to reduce banding. The i2 print modes include Sign/Quality, Picture/Speed, and High Speed modes. The 65/88-in. printers offer speeds up to 743/861 sq ft/hr in 360 x 360-dpi in High Speed mode and up to 70/78 sq ft/hr in 720 x 720-dpi in i2 Sign/Quality mode

The new printers also feature a new, industrial look as well as a high-end LCD display and a large viewing window. An integrated light source allows users to monitor production and facilitates maintenance operations. Other standard features include a fully motorized heavy-duty unwinding/winding system for rolls up to 220 lb, automatic media-thickness compensation, and an ink-starter kit.
