Paterson, NJ – October 18, 2013 – With over 30,000 installations worldwide, Colter & Peterson has struck a chord with the industry and its Microcut® systems for paper cutters. Three types of the back gauge computerized retrofit kits, an automated process that improves production time for a fraction of the cost of a new machine, will be on display in booth 2365 during the SGIA Expo. The show runs from October 23-25 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.
The Microcut BASIC®, Microcut JR® and Microcut PLUS WS® packages are unique and adaptable to any brand or size paper cutter from 20-150 inches. This includes C&P’s highly successful Saber® and Prism® series paper cutters. Each Microcut system memorizes the cutting sequences instantly so the back gauge automatically positions itself for each individual cut. The information is stored indefinitely and can be recalled quickly at the touch of a button.
Customers find the large, multilingual display helps their operators navigate the programming sequence simply and quickly. The current back gauge position can be displayed in inches, centimeters or millimeters, depending on the operator’s choice. Microcut programs a job while cutting the first lift, making automation effective for two or three lift jobs and saving more than just time.
“The Microcut system makes our Saber® XXL 110-inch a very user friendly paper cutter because it eliminates hands-on work and labor,” said Tim Blackburn, President of Foster Printing in Orange County California. “Previously, the guys would be fatigued in less than half a day. Now all they need to do is load the jogger.”
“The Microcut system made for an easier transition from an older paper cutter we still use. Our guys needed a little time to adjust to it,” said Bernie Lacy, Vice President of Litho Press in Indianapolis, who saw productivity numbers rise quickly with his Saber® XXL 90-inch machine. “When you’re cutting through 2-1/2 to 3 inches of paper with a 90-inch cutter, you don’t want to go 90 mph. We soon found a speed and rhythm and everything is working well for us.”
The Microcut Plus WS system offers additional benefits. A full-color, 12” wide format touch screen helps guide the operator with all operations presented in an intuitive, easy to understand format. Programs can be uploaded from a network connection or with a USB device using CIP 3/4 files, and no additional hardware or software is necessary.

“Our Microcut systems are very easy to operate. The true benefit is they are designed to run trouble-free for many years,” concluded Bruce Peterson, President of Colter & Peterson, North America’s largest independent distributor of paper cutters and paper handling equipment. ”If service is required, we can provide technical advice very quickly using self-diagnostic systems and a large support network.”
